Poole Pottery
Poole Pottery dates back to 1873 when a builders merchant from Surrey by the name of Jesse Carter purchased the East Quay ceramics factory which had recently gone bankrupt. The Poole Pottery company was born and began by producing items for building such as wall and floor tiles and fire surrounds. In 1901 Jesse Carter retired and his two sons Charles and Owen took charge of the business and started producing decorative ceramics, the type of which Poole Pottery is famous for today. In the 1950s Poole Pottery realised the need for fresh ideas so employed experienced pottery designer Robert Jefferson to introduce a modern look to Poole Pottery and implement new manufacturing techniques. Production continued in Poole until 2003 when Poole Pottery went bankrupt. The name Poole Pottery is now under new ownership with production at a new location in Stoke-on-Trent.
